Se si ha una fissazione, prima o poi, bisogna togliersela!
Avevo una vera ossessione per un particolare “stile” di colorazione e ne avevo rincorso l’idea a lungo, da anni ormai!
Il blog mi è testimone: ho amato il dip dye tantissimo, un amore a prima vista, e ho scoperto che, a quanto pare, qui in Italia viene chiamato genericamente shatush!
Invece di cimentarmi con qualche esperimento casalingo dall’uscita incerta, a Giugno ho deciso di recarmi da un professionista e mettere la mia chioma letteralmente nelle sue mani! Il risultato?
L’ascesa e la caduta di un’idea geniale.

I was obsessed with a particular hair colouring style and I had chased the idea for a long time, for years now!
The blog is my witness: I love the dip dye a lot, it has been love at first sight, and I’ve discovered with my surprise that, apparently, here in Italy it’s called with the generic term of shatush!
Rather than experimenting with some homemade attempts and uncertain results, back in June I decided to ask a professional and put my hair literally in his hands!
The result? The rise and fall of a brilliant idea.
Il progetto iniziale era di tingere i capelli di blu e avevo resistito al consiglio di A. che mi suggeriva un bel fucsia accesso, essendo quello un colore che adoro e che mi si addice.
Il dip dye ha il pregio di creare un gradevole effetto sfumato, dovuto alla precedente decolorazione, quindi la combinazione e transizione tra il mio bruno mediterraneo e il blu accesso mi intrigava.
Giunta dal parrucchiere, ho passato un quarto d’ora spiegando cosa volevo e quale fosse la procedura, dato che il termine dip dye non viene ancora oggi compreso dalla popolazione autoctona.
Hanno esclamato: “Vuoi lo shatush, allora!”.
“Sì, ma colorato ed esattamente lo volevo…”, ho risposto mostrando una foto di Lauren Conrad coi capelli turchini.
The initial project was to dye my hair blue and I had resisted the advice of A. suggesting me a nice fuchsia, as it’s a colour I find adorable and that really suits me.
The dip dye has the advantage of creating a pleasing gradient effect, due to the previous bleaching step, so the combination and transition between my mediterranean dark brown and electric blue was intriguing me.
Once arrived to the hairdresser salon, I spent fifteen minutes explaining what I exactly wanted and how was the procedure, given that the term “dip dye” isn’t understood by the indigenous population.
They exclaimed: “You want the shatush, then!”.
“Yes, but colourful and exactly I wanted to…” I replied while showing a blue-haired Lauren Conrad picture.
Non si prospettava una bella esperienza, ma ho continuato imperterrita anche se, secondo il team, il blu non sarebbe stato molto visibile alla fine del trattamento.
Il giorno prestabilito sono corsa per arrivare in orario: avevo poco tempo e dovevo tornare a lavoro. Scavalcata da anziane persone, ho aspettato ed aspettato.
Il momento della decolorazione è giunto dopo il lavaggio, il taglio e una rapida asciugatura, ma neppure il parrucchiere aveva idea del tempo necessario per schiarire i miei capelli e ha fatto del suo meglio. Ho captato le sue incertezze nel volto, le ho notate mentre avevo i capelli arruffati e avvolti nella carta stagnola davanti alla faccia.
Questa prima tortura è stata preceduta dalla scelta della tinta: il parrucchiere mi ha illustrato le possibili opzioni che meglio si confacevano ai miei capelli scuri: fucsia o melanzana (aubergine). Ho scelto la seconda…
Finita (forse) la decolorazione, è passato alla fase della tintura: inclinata con la testa nel lavabo, ho passato un tempo incalcolabile in quell’assurda posizione. Anche in questa situazione, il mio parrucchiere non aveva idea del tempo necessario affinché la tinta penetrasse nel capello e facesse il suo dovere.
Saranno passati 30 minuti o di più, però il mio collo se ne è reso conto e i due giorni successivi di dolori acuti sono stati abbastanza!
Ho ricordi sfocati, rammento solo l’asciugatura. Sapendo che lo styling dei capelli ricci non é il loro forte (forse amano l’afro), ho chiesto la stiratura e, almeno, un’arricciatura delle punte con il ferro caldo.
Ovviamente, il ferro arricciacapelli se lo son dimenticato per strada…
Il tocco finale! Conosco questo parrucchiere bene e so che a fine trattamento usa sempre su di me un prodotto anticrespo. Un prodotto fenomenale che lascia i capelli lisci, morbidi e setosi per una settimana intera! Stranamente da quest’anno usa dei cristalli liquidi in una soluzione d’origine naturale con estratto di canapa. Sembrava un prodigio dalla profumazione leggera che donava morbidezza e lucentezza istantanea.
Volevo acquistarlo, ho desistito per il prezzo e ho fatto più che bene: i capelli sono diventati crespi in poche ore.
There were clear signs indicating me it wasn’t going to be a nice experience, but I’ve unabated continued in my pursuit, even though, according to the specialists team, blue wouldn’t have been very visible on my dark hair at the end of treatment.
The appointed day, I rushed to get on time: I had little time and I had to go back to work. Overtaken by older people, I waited and waited.
Bleaching came after shampooing, the haircut and quick blow drying, but even the hairdresser had no idea of the time needed to bleach my hair and he did his best.
I picked up all of his uncertainties in his face, I noticed them while I had shaggy hair all wrapped in aluminum sheets in front of my face.
This first torture was preceded by the choice of my future colour: the hairdresser shown me the possible options that best fitted my hair: crazy fuchsia or eggplant (aubergine), those were, stop.

Done (maybe) with the bleach, he finally started the next step, the dye: with my neck and head inclined into the sink, I’ve spent an incalculable amount of time in that absurd position. Even in this situation, my hairdresser had no idea of the time required for the hair dye to penetrate into my hair and do its duty.
I probably stayed there an looked at the roof for 30 minutes or more, but my neck known it well and the two following days filled up with severe neckpain have been enough!
I have fuzzy memories, I just remember the styling time. Knowing that styling curly hair isn’t his best thing (perhaps his team likes afro/70’s style), I asked them to straighten my hair and, at least, curl my tips with a curling iron for a softer look.
Obviously, they lost the curling iron somewhere or they haven’t even cared about my wishes…
The final touch! I know this hairdresser well and I knew at the end of each session he always uses to apply a great product for frizzy hair.
A phenomenal hair product that leaves hair smooth, soft and silky for a whole week! Strangely, this year he has “adopted” a new hair care line, including some sort of liquid crystals, a natural-based product enriched with hemp extract.
It seemed a miracle with a light fragrance for instant softness and shine.
I wanted to buy it, I gave up because of its price and I did the right thing: my hair became frizzy in a snap.
Nonostante ciò ero orgogliosa del grande passo fatto, perché avevo avuto il taglio che volevo, un colore eccentrico ma accettabile, ovvero qualcosa che dalle mie parti non si vede tutti i giorni.
Finisce qui la storia? Tutto qui?! Ovviamente no.
Dopo un paio di giorni, ho notato qualcosa di realmente strano, mai visto prima. Quel bel colore vibrante e multi sfaccettato si stava spegnendo, giorno dopo giorno, inesorabilmente.
Nevertheless I was proud of the great step forward, because I had the exact haircut I wanted, an eccentric yet acceptable hair colour, that is something one can’t see every day in my little forgotten ville.
What’s that? That’s all?! Is this the end of the story? No, of course.
After a couple of days, I’ve noticed something really strange, never seen before.
That beautiful, vibrant and multi-faceted shade of violet was fading away, day after day, relentlessly.
Ho resistito dieci giorni senza shampoo, poi ho ceduto. Dovevo ma, nella frenesia della settimana lavorativa, avevo dimenticato di comprare uno shampoo adatto alle mie nuove esigenze.
Quel po’ che rimaneva del mio colore è svanito tra le bolle. Era notte e non mi sono resa conto di nulla; non c’era traccia sul mio cuscino, assolutamente nulla.
La mattina seguente mi sono resa conto della trasformazione allo specchio, tutto era scomparso. Era stato solo un sogno? Beh, un sogno costato ben 60€!
Sì, perché tutto costa di più, se vivi in un posto piccino; avrei potuto spendere molto di meno in città o divertendomi col fai da te.
Da fatina dalla chioma scintillante a volpe dal ciuffo selvaggio.
Questo è quello che è accaduto, ora sono rossiccia e mi piace un sacco. (Ho anche imparato una lezione, come giusto che sia.)
I’ve resisted for ten days without shampooing, then I succumbed. But, in the frenzy of the working week, I’ve forgotten to buy a new shampoo for my new needs.
What was left from my original colour vanished among scented bubbles.
It was night and I haven’t realized what was going on, there was no sign on my pillow, absolutely nothing.
The next morning I discovered the transformation, everything was gone.
Was it just a dream? Well, a dream with an overall cost of 60 €!
Yes, because if you live in a tiny place, things are economically and proportionally bigger; I could spend less and less in any other cities or by having fun with DIY.
